American Flag making its way across the country in relay

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – A single American flag has begun a journey, which started on September 11 in San Francisco and en route to Washington D.C.

The flag made a stop in Louisville picking up support from Team Red, White and Blue.

For the second year in a row, over a two month span, 59 teams of runners are carrying that flag across the country in a 3,540-mile journey ending on Veteran’s Day.

The Old Glory relay has highlighted what is possible when everyone works together.

"We like to think that we can adapt and overcome in anything we do. We like to pick up some of the veterans who find us on the side of the road and want to be a part of this and that's a challenge but it's exciting,” Zach Armstrong of Team RWB said. “Something we value, getting Americans, both civilians and veterans active as that's part of our mission."

In all, the team from Louisville will take the flag more than 50-miles east to Frankfort before another team takes over.
